With a clean slate, we cleaned the floors (as best as one could in a garage) and started talking about how we envision the organization of the shelves. Hubby and I decided to make the bottom shelf on the first unit closest to the water heater, as shown here, our paint cans, stains, extra tiles, and chemicals should go there. The one up from that is dedicated to our son’s accumulation of stuff. The top 2 shelves we are still figuring it out right now.

Once we put the second unit together, we wanted to be able to store the lawn equipment and tools all on that one, so making sure the lawn mower with the catch bag could be folded and slid under the bottom shelf was a priority, and that took some measuring to be positive it would fit, and it did plus the wet/dry vacuum fit as well with the top off.

At this point, we accomplished so much more than either of us had expected to do that day and trust me we both were very happy at this point. We saw the light at the end of the tunnel. We salvaged all the wood we could from the cabinet counter tops, now to hammer out all the nails so we can use the wood.

We used a junk removal service previously and decided to contact them to have all the counters removed as well as some other things while they were here, which trust me was well work the cost. Here in Reno, NV we decided to use Junk Patrol and I’ll link them below. Those 2 guys were awesome and so professional. The cabinets that were usable are going to get cleaned up and donated to habitat for humanity, for us that was the hope we had when they were removed.

It’s so nice to have all the space in the garage now. The next project I’ve put upon myself is to pull all the rocks I have collected over the years into one spot, that way I can see what I have and what will be used for future projects, both tumbling, slabbing and for jewelry making. But right now, all that space! I love it. I’ve started cleaning off a shelf where I will have my tumblers running, that way I can organize my rocks I have and future finds on the same shelf. I’m working on getting all my rock hounding and camping gear together in one spot so it’s easier to grab and go when going out.

If anyone has any suggestions as to sturdy bins or boxes to organize my smaller rocks, please let me know. Thank you to everyone who’s following me on this journey, I truly appreciate it. If anyone is new, welcome and say hi.
