I have been actively working on Goal 1, cleaning and organizing the garage, which is not a one-day task and will require the assistance of my husband at one point. The end result is to have the old cabinetry that was moved to the garage during the kitchen remodel replaced by metal industrial shelving like the other side of the garage. The “counter top” is just a stack of 2x4s that will be used for other house projects.

Step 1: I took stock of what was in the garage, what was actual trash and what needed to be gone through quickly. I consolidated items in totes that held similar items and moved it to the other side of the garage opposite of the cabinets leaving room to still get to the deep freezer and out the garage itself. We have two shelving units like the others we already have set up. We got them from Home Depot a while ago and yes, they still have them, I will leave a link below of what we have.
Step 2: I have to keep in mind it won’t be perfect, but I have to start somewhere. So, I started moving things around just to get it out of the way. Our son has been dumping things in the garage for years, so those items are now in their own area for him to go through.

I stopped about 45 mins into this day’s clean up because it was so cold outside plus the garage isn’t heated. I moved a few things around with the result of opening a little space, which turned out to give us more space than expected. I wanted to start working on the garage even if it was a small amount of time, once you start something you get that urge to keep going when you can.
If I have inspired you to start a new venture or to clean and or organize something that’s been an eyesore or been put off for years, like me, leave me a message. I’d love to follow you on your journey.
